New details released by Visit Big Bear describe Wings Over Big Bear as a two-day community weekend honoring the bald eagle whose life above Big Bear Lake drew a worldwide audience. The program will begin with a formal commemoration on Saturday, October 3, before expanding into wildlife tours, activities and conservation education across the valley on Sunday.

The update gives people their clearest information yet about how Big Bear plans to remember Jackie following her death in August.

On Saturday, the free event will open at 10:00 a.m. at Bear Mountain Ski Resort, located at 43101 Goldmine Drive in Big Bear Lake. The commemoration ceremony is scheduled to begin at 10:30 a.m.

Organizers are asking visitors to RSVP through the official Wings Over Big Bear page so they can prepare for the number of people attending.

A memorial that looks beyond one eagle

The second day will turn the gathering outward.

On Sunday, October 4, Wildlife Education Day will bring tours and educational activities to locations across Big Bear Valley. The program will focus on the animals, habitats and conservation work that shaped Jackie’s world long before a nest camera made it visible to millions.

Individual sites, times, accessibility arrangements and reservation requirements have not yet been announced. Visitors should not assume that every Sunday activity will take place at Bear Mountain. Organizers say events will be spread across the valley, with more information still to come.

That wider focus feels true to the way Jackie’s story unfolded.

People first came to the cameras to watch one nest. They stayed through snowstorms, uncertain eggs, quiet nights and the daily work of raising young. Over time, Jackie and Shadow became an entry point into something larger: the rhythms of a wild territory and the fragile conditions that allow bald eagles to remain there.

The weekend is being organized by Friends of Big Bear Valley, Visit Big Bear and a coalition of Tribal, civic, conservation, tourism and public-land partners from across the region.
