$5.4 million “wolfdog” becomes world’s most expensive dog

It was a moment that stunned even seasoned breeders. In February, a wolfdog named Cadabomb Okami sold for an extraordinary $5.4 million, the equivalent of 500 million rupees, to an Indian breeder who believed this rare canine could be the first of its kind.

A cross between a wolf and a Caucasian Shepherd, Okami stands 30 inches tall, weighs around 165 pounds, and attracts crowds as if he were a movie star.

S. Sathish, the 51-year-old breeder behind the purchase, says he has loved dogs all his life but never imagined owning one so distinctive. “He is an extremely rare breed of dog and looks exactly like a wolf. This breed has not been sold in the world before,” he said, noting that Okami’s lineage traces back to the United States.

Sathish is no stranger to high-profile animals, yet Okami’s public appearances have sparked an unprecedented wave of curiosity in his home state of Karnataka.

A rare celebrity in canine form

Sathish recalls the first time he showcased Okami at a movie premiere. Cameras flashed, and admirers lined up for selfies, seemingly more captivated by the wolfdog than by the film’s actors.

“I spent money on these dogs because they are rare. Besides, I get enough money because people are always curious to see them,” he explained.

Indeed, he reportedly earns anywhere from $2,700 to $11,000 per event by exhibiting his unique dogs at prominent gatherings.

The fascination stems from Okami’s imposing presence. Caucasian Shepherds, known to guard livestock in countries such as Georgia and Armenia, can easily exceed 100 kilograms (220 pounds).

By mixing in wolf genes, breeders have produced an animal that looks wild but adapts to human environments. Okami consumes about 6.6 pounds of raw chicken daily, reflecting Sathish’s broader philosophy on canine diets.

“Packed dog food has steroids and reduces their lifespan. I feed all my dogs raw food,” he said.

Life at Cadabom’s Kennels

Okami resides on Sathish’s seven-acre property, which includes large enclosures, CCTV cameras, and round-the-clock caretakers. Each dog has a 20-by-20-foot kennel with enough room to run and play.

Sathish’s commitment to safety is no surprise, given that he also owns other expensive breeds. One is a Chow Chow reportedly purchased for more than $3.1 million, a dog that strikingly resembles a red panda. Yet even that eye-catching animal pales in comparison to the attention Okami has generated.

Whether this record-breaking sale reshapes the exotic dog market remains to be seen. For now, Okami symbolizes an ongoing fascination with rare crossbreeds, fueled by social media videos and the growing interest of enthusiasts worldwide.

He is, for many, the ultimate conversation piece: half wolf, half guardian, and entirely unforgettable.
